The ”Ø-light” gets it name from the characteristic shape in the top opening resembling the Norwegian letter ”Ø.” ”Ø” also means Island in Norwegian. In many ways a pendant lamp creates a lighting island in a dark environment.
The lamp is produced in spun copper. Different chemicals give the surface different patina and structure. We wanted to create a simple lamp where the surface finishing is the main identity. The ø-light will be shown during 100%Norway 2016.
The opening in the top lets out the heat and the same time illuminate the cord. The powder coated elements in the top is painted in a contrasting color to emphasize the surface treatment.
For products with natural patinas, aging is a natural change in the surface. Older products get an unique finish that adds character to the objects. This way we hope to give a longer life span to the lamp.
